History & mission

Highfield School in 1922

Highfield was founded in 1918 by Miss Evelyn Hadfield. It was made into an Educational Charitable Trust in 1966. The Board of Honorary Governors is responsible for the finances of the school, the fabric of the premises, the fees and the size of class.

Highfield follows the National Curriculum requirements while still adhering to the philosophy of education of Charlotte Mason, the founder of the Parents' National Educational Union.

Charlotte Mason
Charlotte Mason founded the PNEU in 1887. Miss Mason was a forward thinking educationalist of her era. Her philosophy continues to this day that all children are individuals and should be treated as such and the curriculum should be exciting, encouraging all children to become self-motivated.

We strive for excellence in every aspect of life, at school and at home, in academic pursuits and in games. Kindness to others, tolerance, conscientiousness and good sportsmanship are all encouraged; we believe that learning can be fun!

We encourage all parents to be actively involved in the education of their child, believing that such co-operation and team-work will be of the greatest benefit.
